This is an unusual view of the old reservoirs with the hotel Atlantic Playa in the background taken in 2002 after they were filled by rain.
You will find these old embalses if you walk inland from the hotel, but don't expect to find them with any water in them.
The new development below them has constructed large channels to take away the rare storm water.
These reservoirs were built to irrigate fields now abandoned. Water was taken to and from the reservoirs in narrow channels carved out of blocks of solid volcanic rock.
These derelict channels can bee seen throughout the rural areas of the South of Tenerife.
